MRA Directory Ad Redesign: Crown
Redesign of Advertisement for MRA Directory 2020
This project was one of my first design projects. Working on this, as well as other projects for Crown Uniform and Linen Service was what sparked my drive to find a career in creative advertising. For this project, I was tasked with redesigning an advertisement for the Massachusetts Restaurant Association Directory. The advertisement received by our marketing consultants was not reflective enough of Crown's identity or services, therefore I was tasked with redesigning it. This project was also my first published piece of work, and was displayed in the 2020 MRA directory on the inside cover.
Rejected Ad
The original advertisement featured long paragraphs and was not clear enough on the type of services Crown offers upon a quick glance. The photo at the top focuses more on food aesthetic than the garment that the chef is wearing, and the dashed hexagon surrounding the Crown logo is too thin, causing visibility issues when used with the yellow color. As the MRA directory is filled with other ads, we wanted to make sure that possible consumers would be able to recognize Crown's purpose quickly and effectively.
Improved Ad
The improved advertisement includes the type of business Crown is directly under the logo. The website address and phone number were also moved up to be more easily viewed. While the point of Crown's services can be seen in a second's glance, those who choose to look longer can see Crown's process, the types of apparel we offer, as well as our accreditations. The dashes around the crown were replaced with dots, and the hexagon was re-shaped into a circle, as a symbol that Crown's services "go full circle". Overall, the improved advertisement is far more eye catching as easier to read.
